5 weeks to Berlin Marathon: Forget-Forgive-Belief-Race

I ran only 4 days (45 km) in the past week and it was the least volume since I start training for this race.

The next two week is going to be the maximum of volume I would run in the whole training block. I think it is better to save my leg for my final push before Berlin Marathon.

In this blog I would like to talk about ways to have a good race which I read from "Shoe Dog" by Phil Knight. The book said that to have a race of your life you must be good at forgetting.

What ? Why? How?

Let's dive in.

What I train ? (Training plan by Suthut Kanlayanakitti)

Mon: Rest
Tue: Easy run 7 km
Wed: 13 km speed run (3 x 400m , 800m, 1200m)
Thu: 13 km (8 k tempo)
Fri: Rest
Sat: 12 km run (5 km race pace)
Sun: Rest

Total 45 km

How I feel ?

My former coach always said to me in race week that to get a personal best I must forget all the past and ready to be suffered. I always followed his advice in the past few years and got many good race results.

Forget your own limit. Forget your disappointment. Forget that you are struggling and suffering in that moment. Then you will have a good race. The book said.

I totally agree.

Most important is all those words remind me of how I train and race. We all have, in brief moment, some hesitations and fears of going too hard in the race. I admit that I always have these thoughts and they prevent me from having a good race as I normally save my energy for the latter part of the race. Take a risk in the race is always my last option.

Your take away messages

Some people race to just finish. Some race to get a new record. Some race to dedicate to love one. Whatever your goal on race day is. I belief it is a good idea to just forget all your worries , limitations , disappointments and be in that precious moment.

Don't forget that while you are healthy and be able to swim bike or run. Some people is sick, injured and have no chance to race like you.

When the race day comes, I think it is a good time to forget all the past, forgive what went wrong, belief in yourself and just race.
