Are you fit but fatigue and fragile?

15 hours of training per week added up by full time job as a flight attendant , personal life and family commitment. Yes I was fit but in the same time I was so fragile and had insurmountable of fatigue.

My story

Looking back in my first quarter of 2019, I was determined to get a personal best in 70.3 distance. I registered for 70.3 Bangsaen ( Feb) and 70.3 Busselton (May). Yes it was difficult to train at the peak of summer in Bangkok, Thailand. Yes It took a lot out of me for time management and train consistently no matter of location I was.

I will never forget some crazy few days when I have to fly to Sweden and trained through it. Started with 1.30 hr indoor bike ride then I packed my bag and work on that night to Stockholm, Sweden. I arrived early morning in Stockholm, then I had around 4-5 hours sleep and went out for 15 km run. The next morning I went for 20 km run and then back for breakfast and prepared for a flight back home.

It was not an ideal training condition but I just wanted to make sure that I train consistently and ready to perform on race day.

Getting a new personal bests was a good thing and probably my only motivation to went out and train. But, It was also quite a big frustation when things went wrong on race day and I could not perform like I had been training.

Back from 70.3 Busselton with disappointments and frustations. I knew I was too tired and could not take the amount of required training volume and intensity to progress anymore. Eventhough, I knew that I can get a better result if I kept training no matter how I felt. I decided to stop, had some deep breath moment and looked for a new goal.

My new approach

I always believe that to struggle for something better ; whether it is better life, better race results or better career are probably best things that happened to me.

Training through all those difficult moments days after days , weeks after weeks and months after month have built something great inside of me and believe it or not it has open many doors of opportunity for me.

Currently, I may still do not have results I would like to have but I still have hope and willing to train again. Because, training and racing give me so many learning experiences that I would never get from reading or staying in my comfort zone. To tell you the truth, endurance sports gave me a better life no matter what my race result is.
