8 weeks to Berlin Marathon: Are you a slave of training plan?

I was more than once addicted to training and being a slave to training plan. Outside I was stronger and faster but inside I was so weak, vulnerable and unhappy. It was definitely your choice of choosing your own endurance journey

8 weeks to Berlin Marathon: Are you a slave of training plan?

Why do you run? To get a better personal health condition, to get a personal record, to meet friend or to honor someone you respect.

It was actually not a good week for me in term of training consistency as my work commitment and travel had once again prevent me for training at my best. In the mean time, it was one of the week I can rest, recover and realise my potential and possibility for the upcoming Berlin Marathon 2019.

What I train ? (Training plan by Suthut Kanlayanakitti)

Mon:Easy run 7 km
Tue: 12 km mid long run (easy to moderate)
Wed: 11 km speed session (400, 800,1200m repeats)
Thu: rest
Fri: rest
Sat:rest
Sun: Long run 20 km

Total 50 km

How I feel ?

Not be able to follow training plan and no time to train were probably a big frustation for me. As I knew that my body is ready to train hard but other aspect in life prevented me from doing it.

Once in a while, you may face this same kind of situation like me. What would you do?

Would you still stick to training plan or would you back off a little from training and let other things in life occupy your time?

Your take away messages

Don't get me wrong. Training is very very important if you really want to improve. But the big question is how would you manage to recover from those hard & easy training sessions.

We live in a society which success , recognition and achievement are valued as the most important asset you can have and endurance athletes always and easily fall into this trap. Training more and achieving more mean you are better than your friends, teammates or colleagues. But if those training hours which make you fitter but more fatigue take away all your precious family time and prevent you from fully recovered, would you still training more?

I was more than once addicted to training and being a slave to training plan. Outside I was strong and fast but inside I was so weak, vulnerable and unhappy. It was definitely your choice of choosing your own endurance journey. I hope you can finally find your own way and answer the big question of "Why do you train?"
